A deal leaves a trail across many form types: the merger proxy (DEFM14A), the registration of shares issued in a stock deal (S-4 or F-4), Rule 425 communications, tender offer statements (SC TO-T, SC TO-I), the target's response (SC 14D9) and going private transactions (SC 13E3).
