Form N-CSR is how a registered fund files its annual shareholder report with the SEC, together with officer certifications required by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. It holds the audited financial statements, the full schedule of investments and fund governance items.
Since the tailored shareholder report rules took effect in 2024, the short shareholder report goes to investors while the full financial statements live in the N-CSR itself, which makes the filing even more important for data users.
Registered management investment companies: mutual funds, ETFs and closed-end funds. Semiannual reports are filed on N-CSRS.
Within 10 days after the report is sent to shareholders, which must happen within 60 days after the end of the fiscal year.
