...Overview
Federal award data names recipients, not tickers. Lockheed Martin appears under several legal entities, Booz Allen under subsidiaries and joint ventures, and none of them carries a CIK. Joining that to SEC data by hand means guessing which entity is which.
This API matches a ticker to its parent recipient on USAspending by exact name after normalising legal suffixes, then pulls awards for the parent and everything under it. Every response says which recipient matched and how. When nothing matches exactly, you get the candidates instead of a guess.
What you get
Built for developers who would rather not parse EDGAR.
Awards are pulled by the parent's UEI, which covers its subsidiaries and joint ventures.
recipient and method say exactly which USAspending parent the ticker was matched to.
No exact match returns candidates and an empty award list, never another company's awards.
Combine federal awards with the company's filings, insider trades and 13F holders in one API.
Endpoints
Authenticate with Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY. Responses are JSON.
Federal awards of a listed company by ticker or CIK, including subsidiaries and joint ventures, with the matched parent recipient.
Parameters: ticker | cik, type, naics, psc, agency, state, startDate, endDate, sort, order, from, size
Response fields
The main fields in every result. The raw filing data is always one level down.
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
company.cik, ticker, name | The listed company you asked for. |
recipient.id, name, uei, level | The matched USAspending parent recipient. |
method | How the match was made: exact_normalized_name, or null when nothing matched. |
awards[] | The same award rows as the Federal Awards API. |
candidates[] | Possible recipients when there is no exact match. |
Use cases
- Measuring a company's exposure to federal spending
- Screening defense and government IT contractors
- Pairing contract wins with 8-K and insider activity
- Research datasets that need awards keyed by CIK
FAQ
How is a ticker matched to a federal recipient?
The SEC company name and USAspending parent names are compared after removing case, punctuation, state tags and legal suffixes. Only an exact match links.
What happens when a company has no match?
recipient is null, awards is empty and candidates lists the closest recipients so you can pick one and query by its UEI.
Are subsidiaries and joint ventures included?
Yes. Searching by the parent's UEI returns awards to every recipient USAspending lists under that parent.
