Since the Dodd-Frank Act, firms that advise states, cities and other municipal entities on bonds and municipal financial products must register with the SEC as municipal advisors on Form MA. Each natural person who does that work is registered on Form MA-I.
The filings describe the firm's business, its clients and its disciplinary history, and MA-I lists each individual's employment and disclosure history, much like a broker's record.

Before acting as a municipal advisor. Firms file an annual update (MA-A) within 90 days after fiscal year end and amend promptly for material changes. MA-W withdraws registration.
