Quiver API vs SecFeed API: Government Contracts and SEC Data Compared

Quiver Quantitative's API covers congressional trades, lobbying and government contracts by ticker. SecFeed covers SEC filings plus federal contracts with the matched records shown. Plans, commercial rights and when each one fits.

Quiver Quantitative built its API around alternative data on public companies: what politicians trade, what companies spend on lobbying, which ones win government contracts. SecFeed is an SEC filings API that added federal contract data next to the filings. They overlap on one thing, government contracts by ticker, and differ on almost everything else.

The short answer

  • Choose Quiver if you want congressional trades, lobbying, politician net worth or app ratings, or a low priced personal plan that bundles them with government contracts.
  • Choose SecFeed if you need SEC filings in depth, or federal contracts you can audit: the USAspending records behind each ticker, subsidiaries rolled up, open SAM.gov opportunities and contracts ending soon.

Quiver facts are from its API pages, checked 2026-10-29.

Where Quiver is better

  • Political data. Congressional trades and holdings, politician net worth, lobbying, revolving door lobbyists and corporate donors in one key. SecFeed has none of these.
  • Bundle price for personal use. $30 a month covers its Hobbyist datasets, government contracts included.
  • Unusual datasets. App ratings, patents, off exchange trading and a newsfeed.

Where SecFeed is better

  • Contracts you can check. A ticker lookup returns which USAspending parent records were used and whether each matched the current or a former SEC name, so a wrong or missing link is visible instead of silent. See the government contracts ranking for the result on 60 listed contractors.
  • What comes next, not only what was awarded. Open SAM.gov opportunities in the company's industries, and the Recompete Radar API for contracts ending in the next 24 months with the SAM.gov notices that name them.
  • SEC data in depth. Every EDGAR filing since 1993, 8-K items, 10-K and 10-Q sections, executive pay, Form D, 13D/13G and fund filings next to the contract data.
  • Commercial use at $79. Quiver's commercial plan is $250 a month.

When SecFeed is the wrong choice

If the question is what members of Congress trade or what a company spends on lobbying, use Quiver. If you only want a feed of new contract awards by ticker for a personal dashboard, Quiver's Hobbyist plan bundles that with its other datasets.

FAQ

How much does the Quiver API cost?

Quiver's API pricing page lists a Hobbyist plan at $30 a month ($25 a month billed yearly) and a Trader plan at $75 a month ($62.50 billed yearly), both without commercial use rights. Commercial use starts at $250 a month for companies under $1 million in annual revenue, with Enterprise above that.

Does the Quiver API include government contracts?

Yes. Quiver lists Government Contracts among the Hobbyist plan datasets. Its example response has one row per award with the ticker, date, description, agency and amount.

How does SecFeed match a federal contractor to a ticker?

SecFeed compares the company's SEC name, and the former names in its SEC record since 2008, with USAspending parent recipient names after removing case, punctuation and legal suffixes. Only an exact match links, and the response lists every matched record and why it matched.

Does SecFeed have congressional trading or lobbying data?

No. SecFeed covers SEC filings and federal contracts. For trades by members of Congress or lobbying spend, Quiver has them and SecFeed does not.
