What is U-57?

Section 33 of the Public Utility Holding Company Act, added in 1992, let US holding companies own foreign utility companies without those companies being treated as public utility companies under the act. EDGAR titles U-57 "Notification of Foreign Utility Company Status [Section 33(a)(2)]".
