The SEC's 2020 securities offering reform for closed-end funds let eligible funds and business development companies use the same shelf registration tools as operating companies. A well-known seasoned closed-end fund or BDC can file an automatic shelf on Form N-2, effective on filing, which EDGAR tags N-2ASR.
