Form N-8B-2 is the initial registration statement for unit investment trusts (UITs) under the Investment Company Act of 1940. A UIT files it once to register as an investment company, describing the trust's organization, sponsor, trustee and how units are created and redeemed.
The units themselves are registered under the Securities Act on other forms, such as S-6 for most UITs. N-8B-2 filings are the place to find the original structure of long-lived trusts, including some of the oldest exchange traded products.
