What is N-8A?

Form N-8A is the short notification by which a company registers as an investment company under Section 8(a) of the Investment Company Act of 1940. It is usually followed by a full registration statement such as Form N-1A or N-2.

Because nearly every new fund trust, closed-end fund and interval fund begins with an N-8A, the series is a leading indicator of new fund formation.
