N-30B-2 is the EDGAR type for periodic and interim reports that investment companies send to shareholders when those reports are not the annual and semi-annual shareholder reports covered by Rule 30e-1 (which are filed on Form N-CSR). In practice it carries reports from unit investment trusts, insurance separate accounts and other registrants, and quarterly letters some funds send investors.
